Pike and Gibson County GED Testing Services

Mr. Shawn Bruner, Pike County's Chief GED Examiner, says students passing the GED exam will receive a GED diploma issued by the State of Indiana.  This diploma, signed by the state school superintendent, will be mailed to each student and kept on file at the GED office in the Adult Learning Center on the campus of Pike Central Middle School south of Petersburg.

For those interested in taking the GED exam, please call Mrs. Terri Holmes, adult education program assistant, at 812-354-8731, ext. 709, or Mr. Shawn Bruner at 812-354-3918.  These individuals will be happy to register you for one of our testing sessions!  Please call for test day-time scheduling information.  The fee for taking the exam the first time is $70.00!  The fee for retesting is $15.00 per test section.

Information about the General Educational Development (GED) Credential

The GED program has become a significant means for adults to acquire a high school equivalency diploma.  GED Tests cover language arts reading and writing skills, social studies, science, and mathematics. At age 17, an examinee must provide documentation of no longer being subject to Indiana Compulsory Attendance Laws and successfully pass the GED Practice Test. Each examinee must be an Indiana resident for at least 30 days and present a photo identification and proof of age. Testing sites are located throughout the state.

Adult Education and/or GED Testing Preparation Classes

Adult programs throughout the state offer courses on reading, language, writing and math.  Many also offer English as a Second Language (ESL) courses and General Educational Development (GED) Test prep.  Adult education services can help you become employed, advance at work, find a career certification program, earn your GED certificate or high school diploma, and/or attend college.

Contact a nearby adult education program and schedule an appointment to enroll today.  Staff can recommend courses that meet your needs and help you achieve your career or educational goals.

While deciding on your future plans, explore your career interests and skills online free of charge at Indiana Career Explorer.

GED Testing

Adult education classes can prepare you to take the GED Tests although they are not required to take the tests. The actual GED Tests can only be taken at official testing sites registered with the American Council on Education (ACE).  To locate the testing center nearest you using your zip code, see: Locating a GED Test Center.

Obtaining a copy of your GED credential

Need a copy of your GED Transcript? Official copies of your GED transcript (score report) or GED Diploma (now a GED Certificate of Achievement) must be obtained from Diploma Sender, the state’s GED document fulfillment service. Please do not contact the Department of Education (DOE) or Department of Workforce Development (DWD) for a copy of your transcript.
