Pike County School Corporation

2007 Federal No Child Left Behind AYP Status Report

1.     We have received our annual NCLB Status Report for 2007.  This report is based largely on the results from the September 2006 ISTEP+ administration.

2.     NCLB is a federal school accountability law, which was initiated in 2003 by United States Congress.  It requires schools to show adequate yearly progress (AYP) in the academic achievement in each of the following categories:  1) overall student population; 2) identified student subgroups within the general student population including economic background, race, limited English proficiency, and special education; 3) ISTEP participation rates; 4) attendance rate; and 5) graduation rate.

3.     For the 2006-2007 school year, the PCSC and all five Pike County School Corporation schools achieved compliance status with the Federal NCLB Law.  Our district, as well as all five Pike County schools, passed 100% of the categories in which they were monitored.  The district, high school and all three Pike County elementary schools met standards in 13 of 13 categories, while the middle school met standards in 17 out of 17 categories.  Overall, Pike County passed in 82 of 82 possible categories, a perfect score.

Notes:

·        The PCSC has been in compliance with NCLB federal legislation for the past four years.  Only once in the past five years did the PCSC fail to meet expectations.

·        Otwell and Winslow elementary schools have met NCLB standards for five consecutive years.  Petersburg Elementary School has met NCLB requirements four of the five past years.

·        Both PCHS and PCMS regained their NCLB compliance status this school year.

4.     Schools receive substantial consequences or interventions for not making AYP from the Indiana Department of Education, including the mandating of school choice, requiring supplemental services, corrective action, and school and/or district restructuring.

5.     Only three of the 26 public school districts in Southwest Indiana DID NOT make NCLB AYP this year.
