Introduction to Research
Information Literacy
The Information Literacy Curriculum of the Pike County Schools is based on the Indiana curriculum standards, the American Library Association Information Power standards, and the Big6* process model for information problem-solving.
Teachers develop educational research problems to enable students to master subject content and develop information literacy skills. The term information literacy includes a wide range of skills that are necessary to interact effectively with information and to construct meaningful knowledge. Students who are information literate:
analyze complex and conflicting presentations of information
appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints
use information competently in critical thinking, decision making and problem solving
produce new information and create products and presentations that communicate their ideas efficiently and effectively
act responsibly in regard to information
develop into lifelong learners who can assimilate varying viewpoints, accommodate change, and contribute to the well-being of the community
Research Guide
To help students develop their information literacy skills, we have prepared a research guide that enables them to successfully plan, complete, and evaluate research projects using the Big6* model. To access the guide, click on the button below.
