News from the Library

Welcome Back Eskimos!  My name is Dana Hughes and I am the librarian here at Winslow Elementary.  This is my fourth year in the library and I am looking forward to a great year! 

This year as in years past, we will have the Accelerated Reader Program or AR program.  This program is for 2^nd – 5^th grade with 1^st grade starting second semester.  Each grade has block time each day to read and take tests over books in their book level from the library.  At the end of the grading period if the student has kept their average at 85% or higher and they have reached 100% of their goal they will be able to attend our AR party to celebrate their success!  At the party we have lots of fun where we play games, eat snacks and everyone gets a prize sack when they leave!  Please remember to encourage your child and remind them to bring their AR book home so you can read with them.  This program has been a great success and it really helps foster a love of reading. 

We will also be having our Scholastic Book Fair again this fall.  The dates have not been set but I will keep you informed on the when and where in future newsletters.

Again I am very excited to see everyone this year and I know that there are many new adventures waiting for you to read about in the books in our library!
